About Us
Shantigarbha (Chris Warren) is an international NVC trainer based in Cambridge, UK. He is certified with the International Centre for Nonviolent Communication.
Shantigarbha studied Classics and Philosophy at Oxford University in the UK before embarking on a career in NGOs and Arts Publishing. He worked for several years for The Karuna Trust, a charity funding health and educational projects among the ‘Dalits’ – some of the poorest people in India. Subsequently he ran a charity producing cassettes on meditation and Buddhism. For ten years he published and co-edited Urthona - the only Buddhist arts magazine.
He has been practising meditation and Buddhism since 1985, and in 1996 he was ordained into the Western Buddhist Order. He was given the name Shantigarbha, which means ‘Seed of Peace’, hence the name of our organization.
He now leads workshops and retreats with trainers in the UK, the US, India and Sri Lanka and offers coaching / counselling for individuals and couples. He writes a regular column in Juno Magazine on NVC and parenting, and he’s currently working on a book on Empathy.
He says: “I love the sense of connection I get when I’m with people on NVC workshops – the sense of common humanity. I’d like to celebrate that!”
