Online: NVC in the Workplace – 6-week course (Mondays)

When Satya Nadella became CEO of Microsoft in 2014, he took a bold step to transform the company’s toxic culture. He gave each member of his senior leadership team a copy of Marshall B. Rosenberg’s Nonviolent Communication: A Language of Life. At the time, Microsoft was plagued by hostility, infighting, and backstabbing among its top executives. Nadella’s initiative aimed to initiate a cultural turnaround and became a pivotal step in reshaping Microsoft’s corporate ethos.

As the workplace environment continues to evolve, new challenges arise that impact collaboration and the quality of relationships. Are you struggling with communication issues that lead to impasses? Do you want to enhance your communication skills to foster a more cooperative and productive environment? Are you seeking to:

The NVC in the workplace course that Shantigarbha hosted for our team in Bristol was the wake up call we all needed. The course has personally given me the tools and confidence to support our international team in a way that wasn’t available to me before. Forever grateful.
Tom Williams, OBE, founder STAND

  • learn how to communicate effectively with your co-workers?
  • learn how to work constructively with your boss (if you have one)?
  • improve your job prospects?
  • (to the extent that you can) change the culture in your team from competition to collaboration?

Introducing NVC to your organization has these benefits:

  • a reduction in conversations behind people’s back and increase in willingness to attend to conflict.
  • clarity about decision-making authority within the organization.
  • alignment of authority and responsibility for individuals.
  • increased buy-in for projects.
  • a reduction in the number of sick days and staff turnover.

Who is this course for?

This course is for you if you care about the quality of relationships in your workplace and want to increase collaboration. It’s held on Zoom over six weeks. We ask that you agree to attend at least five of the six sessions. If you are going to miss more than one session, we ask that you book on a later cycle. In order to create a safe space for sharing, we will only be sharing recordings of the sessions with attendees on the course who aren’t able to make a particular evening i.e. there isn’t a ‘watch only’ option. To give attention to each person on the course, we are limiting the number of participants to 22.

Preparation (not required to participate)

Orientation video

A week before the course starts, we’ll send you the link to a 5-minute orientation video. We offer this to ensure a smooth start to session one the following week, where we will have our focus on the NVC learning. In the video we go over important practical matters for attending an online course.

In the spirit of Gift Culture

Gift Culture is a new paradigm that moves us away from making money a measurement of worth and value, towards focusing on the sustainability of the community as a whole. More about Gift Culture.

As part of experimenting with financial co-responsibility, we ask the following:

  1. When you apply, select the £90 Booking Fee option. We ask that you treat £90 as a non-refundable deposit for your place – you can attend and choose to contribute no more than £90.
  2. At the end of the sixth session of the course, we will invite you to make a further contribution to help us continue  to offer this work to others. On the booking form, we will ask you to confirm that you are aware of this.
  3. If your organization is funding your attendance, we would like to receive £90 booking fee plus £280 further contribution at the end of the course. If it’s simpler to arrange one transfer, we can invoice you for the total amount of £370 at the time of booking.

A note on finances

We ask for a Booking Fee of £90 to book your place plus a financial contribution of your choosing. To meet our costs and to ensure the sustainability of the event we are suggesting a total contribution in the range of £160–£370 for an online course. If this would be a hardship for you, please do not let that stop you from attending as we would love to have you there. Please contact us to talk about it.
