The Venue: Critchill Manor Estate

We’ll be at Critchill Manor Estate, two miles from Frome, Somerset, from Tuesday 4 – Sunday 9 August, 2020.

Critchill Manor Estate is well situated on the edge of Frome and offers easy transport links to London, the A303 and M4. Frome train station is just a short drive from the estate. The main access is via Critchill, which in turn is accessed from Nunney Road in Frome. Alternatively, you can access the site via the village of Nunney via Frome Road. Vehicle entry times for the venue are as follows unless otherwise arranged:

  • Weekdays: 8am – 10pm
  • Saturdays: 8am – 12am
  • Sundays: 8am – 9pm

Travelling by Car. If you use sat nav or a mapping service like Google Maps enter the postcode BA11 4LJ. This normally takes you directly to the gate.

If you look on Google Maps with that postcode you will see a drive running north from Critch Hill (Google’s error, it’s actually ‘Critchill’) / Frome Road, with a lake. This is the driveway into the venue. The entrance to the driveway is flanked by large gateposts and is easy to identify.

Access to Critchill is via Frome or Nunney. Both access routes are narrow in places and pass residential areas. Please drive carefully and with respect for residents! If you are driving from the local area please be considerate and avoid taking shortcuts through small lanes – we would like to avoid causing disruption and congestion to local people.

Public Transport

Head for Frome if you are coming by public transport. We recommend the Traveline website for impartial advice on planning your journey by public transport; alternatively you can call them on +44 (0) 871 200 22 33.

Train. The nearest railway station is Frome, only 2.0 miles from the site. Frome has limited services and more regular trains run from Westbury or Castle Cary. Frome station has a taxi rank but quite limited facilities generally.

Bus. There are no bus services running through Critchill. However a minibus service, number 162, goes to Nunney via Frome where you can walk to the venue via footpath or road in about 35 minutes. The same service stops at Sainsburys in Frome where you can walk in about 30 minutes to the venue. See walking routes below for more details.

Taxi. Frome has a number of taxi firms operating.

  • ABC Taxis: 01373 452 211 / 01373 452 444
  • M&H Taxi: 01373 762882 (24hrs)
  • Arrow Taxis: 01373 470110 / 07779 004 030
  • Starline Taxis: 01373 452 222

More services can be found online. We recommend taxis are booked in advance where possible, especially if wanted in the evening at weekends when there is high demand or on Sunday when there are less services running.

Air. The nearest airport is Bristol, so you will need to check out the other links to get you to the site entrance.

Cycling. If you wish to cycle to the venue check out the Sustrans map page, entering BA11 4LJ in the “Search Our Route Mapping” box. National Cycle Route 24 passes very close to the venue.

Walking to site. The site is fairly accessible on foot from Frome or Nunney. There is a footpath that runs through the venue that connects Nunney to Frome. It is well used by dog walkers. It is best to have an Ordnance Survey map in hand when attempting this walk. Some parts of it are covered in this PDF.

Directions from the front entrance to the Summerfest area

Proceed up the driveway towards the main house, passing a bungalow on your right. The road sweeps round to the left in front of the house in the direction of the main car park. Still facing the house, the Summerfest area is on your right – look out for our Welcome Gazebo. The camping area is beyond the swimming lake. If you are camping, you might want to drop off your tent and other stuff here, before proceeding to the car park.

Drop-offs: Those being dropped off in taxi or car can do so in the main car park or at the entrance to the driveway from Critchill.
